North-east India Celebrates World Bamboo Day
Government of Nagaland in association with World Bamboo Organization has announced World Bamboo Day on 18th of September. World Bamboo Day will be followed after a two day event named ‘North East International Bamboo Festival’ from 16th to 17th of September held at Kisama, Kohima in Nagaland, India. World Bamboo Day will be inaugurated by Honorable Vice President of India, Mr. Hamid Ansari in attendance of Governors and Chief Ministers of the North Eastern states of India besides other dignitaries.
The occasion will be organized to generate awareness around bamboo in the industry. The theme for the occasion will be “Bamboo for livelihood and community development”. World Bamboo day will emphasize on the promotion of bamboo, its social, economic and environmental importance. The events of the World Bamboo Day will come about from 18th to 22nd of Sept. Event highlights will be: Bamboo Planting, Run for Bamboo (Marathon Run), Craft Competition, Workshops (including one by Jeffree Trudeau of Bamboo Living), Painting Competition for School Children, Bamboo Music Festival, Bamboo Food Festival, Exhibitions on Bamboo Craft and Products.
This celebration of bamboo is expecting over 500 participants from around the world comprised of members of the World Bamboo Organization, high level policy makers, manufactures and entrepreneurs from North-East India and Govt. of India, ambassadors of ASEAN countries and the Consulate of the US Kolkata office.
